Hinges - light

Hinges - light

Lighter than heavy (!) but more substantial than most domestic offerings

  • Butt Hinges Butt Hinges

Standard hinges in two ranges, narrow and broad. The latter tend to be the most commonly used. The dimensions given are length along the pin, and width when open.

  • Fancy Backflap Hinges Fancy Backflap Hinges

These are fairly lightweight, being pressed from brass rather than extruded, so best used for items like locker doors. The dimensions given are length along the pin, and width when open.

  • Flush Hinges Flush Hinges

With one leaf folding within the other, this hinge only needs one rebate in either frame or door. The dimensions given are length along the pin, and width when open.

  • Lift-off Hinges - light Lift-off Hinges - light

These are the same weight as the butt hinges, but the length of the pins make them a touch more fragile. Probably best used in relatively light applications. How to tell left from right? With the hinge open, the countersinks towards you, and the pin upright, if the pin is on the right hand part of the hinge, it is right handed, and vice versa. The dimensions given are length along the pin, and width when open.

  • Continuous Hinge Continuous Hinge

Also called piano hinge. Lengths of up to 6 feet (1.8 m) can be supplied. The dimension given is width when open.
